MY NEW PIANO or KEYBOARD! - Share Your Story! I was just describing why I preferred one approach over the other.ĭigital Pianos - Electronic Pianos - Synths &a. However, its easier to cross over and play it, if you are satisfied with not playing around with the pedal during that transition. The alternative, where that note is actually depressed by the finger all through, lets you reapply the pedal and the note still sustains because the key is depressed all the while. You cannot do this if you cross because that lower note now is not being held by a finger and as soon as you take the pedal off, that note will get muffled. I find it musically sensible to cut the pedal and reapply it again to make the sounds less muddled, and also as a phrasing tool for the treble softer "response" melody. You can try this: Once you hit that long note (that needs to be sustained while the melody transfers to the treble), you can do nothing with the pedal. Its harder but I think it may have some benefits if you want to be innovative with the pedal.
